I just voted twice from the same IP on the same submission, to see if it’s possible. And it is. By voting on your site and then at polldaddy.com

Maybe you should only admit votes by comment. At least this way you can see the IP the votes are coming from.
Or maybe you should ask your community to vote. I don’t know.
I’m not in this contest for the money. I olny want one membership, for myself. But I’m not going to cheat for it.
    Please don’t count 1 vote on 404.websiter.ro/404 (it’s the test I made).
If i wasn’t allowed to vote on any of my own submissions, I’d have voted on GNOWFGLINS.

Justin, websiter were right. And do you enable block repeat voters by IP address and cookies? Because if we clear cookies via browser, the form will vote display again.
I have tried http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-polls/ and just check the polldaddy feature, form vote will display again if option blocking repeat voters by IP address and cookies not enable.

Well, I had to vote for SquidLog. I’m biased that way. :D

I fail to recognize the correlation between being funny, cool or smart and having a collage of the logos of three major search engines without any actual link to them as a 404.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy with the results, as I’m doing way better than I hoped for in this popularity contest.

I was just curious about what Justin makes of this and where did his vote go, if he afforded one. At least I’m sure he understands English.

    Funny how? Like a clown?

You talk about My 404 page Huh?
Basically, the meaning behind my 404 page is to encourage user to use MY BLOG search engine, not the 3 Major Search Engine…..

Hey, why you getting too serious about it, huh?
Isn’t it a FUNNY contest, eh?
Just relax and Enjoy it…. ;)

  11. Andrei Gheorghiu Andrei Gheorghiu September 2, 2009 at 10:08 am |

I think this contest should should be serious. I also think it’s not. And I’m very relaxed.
Should I repeat it? I’m very happy with the result. It favors me.
But I also think voters should be more responsible and not vote the person who created the page/website but the 404 page itself. And I somehow feel there’s a lot of people backing me on this one.
But of course, I might be wrong…

    1. Hxh90 Hxh90 September 2, 2009 at 11:59 pm |

I agree with You…I think Most of the Voter isn’t only judge the 404 page…
But also the Overall Design of The Site…..
I’m not saying my site have a really good design…
      Your site isn’t done yet…

      1. websiter websiter September 3, 2009 at 7:01 am |

        There is no site, mate!
I created a new subdomain (404.websiter.ro) specially for this competition, to be able to display the new 404 page, so I wouldn’t have to replace the one on websiter, which was already in the competition.
And by the way, “the overall design” of your site has been made by Justin Tadlock. That is why, contrary to your belief, your site DOES have a really good design. Because you only made like 10% of it and you started off from a really good looking template.
I suppose you wanted to say “content” instead of “overall design”?

No, this was not a content competition and it was not a website design by Justin Tadlock competition, either. It should have been a 404 page competition. It turned out to be a popularity contest.
Having more friends doesn’t necessarily make your 404 page smarter.
And, by the way, you do not have a “search engine” on your site. It’s a search function/form/page. Not an engine. Get your terms straight before using them.
        Use that dictionary.

      2. Hxh90 Hxh90 September 3, 2009 at 11:43 am |

My Bad, the Overall design created by Justin..But it’s not a big deal for me..

Btw, I never said my 404 page is smarter than others… I know it’s not really Smart or Cool… but I’m trying…

it’s not a mistake having MORE friends, as long as you aren’t broke any Contest Rules…FYI, The Rules isn’t really clear for me, Maybe somebody can tell me more detail about it…what should I do and What should I don’t.

You got me…What I mean is search function..not search engine…Man, you are too strict to something like this…. nice Job :)

        Once again…Stay Cool..

Dear all, I am a Sri Lankan student of 18yrs. I do not own a PC and hence I run all of my websites from my mobile phone. I do not want to win the prizes of this competition, but could all of you please take a look at my 404 page – http://www.mobileroyale.co.cc/404 ?
It has been created using Query Posts and Widget Logic built on Hybrid News theme. I would really appreciate your comments. Thank you !

You have too many categories and they go out of the nav-cat line.
You either reorganize your categories in subcategories so the main ones do not go out of the nav-cat line or you modify the page background so that the categories on the second row get visible, too.

Thanks for a great contest, Justin. I’m really happy to have a 404 page, thanks to the inspiration of your contest.

@Websiter – Thank you for the compliment – that you’d vote for my 404 page. :)

    1. websiter websiter September 5, 2009 at 8:05 am |

It’s well thought, genuine, playful and in perfect harmony with the content. It’s smart, but in a gentle way (not aggressive, like mine).
It doesn’t get to bother you the n-th time you see it.
      It’s what a 404 should be, imho.

Dang, why y’all arguing and stuff. No need for all that.

    That said, jeeez, I’m struggling.
Oh well, at least I have a 404 page now, I would never have bothered before this competition to remove the default.

But still, 1%… y’all evil, lol.

    Websiter is my pick.

Since eCig is in construction, SquidLog got my vote…

They’re all at the very least meritorious contestants. But in the ‘clever’ department, I think the squidsters took the fish bait-cake. Other than that, I insist that Hybrid rocks.

    Great contest idea.
Have to say eCig Toolbox’s fellow on the tidy bowl was the funniest, so I cast my vote here.

If 2nd Place was an option, I’d have voted again for GNOWFGLINS. The image (Old Mother Hubbard) and the commentary were spot on with theme of the site and I appreciate the effort to find a pic at PG. Nice.

Honorable mentions would go to Voipbloggen (like the LOST image, can’t wait for LOST to pick back up!) and to Websiter II for elegant simplicity.

Can I say this here? Hybrid is just a cool, clean, workable theme. Ahh.

    Squid Log

I was torn between Websiter II and GNOW…the organic food one.

Mailwail could have done so much more with theirs – “Maybe you should ask for directions” or… a bunch of ideas come to mind.

My all-time favourite 404 said, “Nice job, dude. You broke the Internet.” Unfortunately, I can’t remember what the site was (circa 1995-96). My other fave read: “Congratulations! You have officially reached the end of the Internet.”

Hmm. I am not impressed by anything listed here. There are really good 404 page designs which are really funny and useful to the visitors. Anyhow, I voted for the last one. (Need another poll with some good 404page lists)
