As most of you know by now, WordPress version 4.9.6 introduced new privacy and personal data tools in preparation for the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This is the first stage in new core tools for handling data privacy and a user’s right to be forgotten.
This meant introducing some new role capabilities into core WordPress. All of these new capabilities get mapped to the general-purpose
manage_options cap. Essentially, this means only administrators (by default) have access to these tools.
The Members – Privacy Caps plugin breaks these new capabilities away and gives you more fine-tuned control over which roles have access to the privacy and personal data features.
This plugin will likely be best in a few scenarios:
- You’re a developer working on a client site where the client shouldn’t edit options but needs access to these new features.
- You’re a site owner and need to give certain roles additional access.
- You run a multisite network and want to provide control over these features on a per-site basis.

This plugin is an add-on for the Members plugin. You’ll need it installed and activated to make use of the add-on.
I hope you enjoy this add-on and can find some good uses for it. Also, feel free to let me know in the comments about any other add-ons you might want to see in the future.
