AlienWP and the Ascetica theme

Just a couple of days ago, I launched the new Theme Hybrid feature to allow theme authors to upload their custom themes to the site. Now, two days later, we’ve got a brand new theme from the talented Galin Simeonov.

Don’t worry; he didn’t code the entire theme in two days. He put in much more work than that. I’ve been looking over his work for quite a while now, and it is definitely top-notch stuff.

He’s got the makings of a great theme designer. Plus, he’s building from the Hybrid Core framework. What more could you ask for?

Galin runs a site called AlienWP where he showcases his theme design work.

I’m a huge fan of his minimalist style and his approach to theme development, which falls right in line with the Theme Hybrid philosophy. So, be sure to check out his Web site and see the other themes he’s created based on the Hybrid Core framework.

Introducing the Ascetica theme

Ascetica is the first theme (of I hope many) that Galin has created to add directly to Theme Hybrid. This means the theme is fully-supported on this site; it even has its own dedicated support forum.

Ascetica is a minimalist portfolio and blog theme with a responsive layout. It was designed for bloggers, photobloggers, designers, and photographers to showcase their work in a simple yet elegant environment.

You can get all the details, view the demo, and download the theme from the Ascetica theme page.

Also, everyone give a big congrats to Galin for being the first Theme Hybrid member to have his theme showcased on the site.

  1. Awesome work, Galin. I can’t believe I didn’t know until just a few days ago you already had these themes out there. I’m glad you’re getting some much deserved attention with your work.

The community at large could do with some quality code in themes like the ones here at TH and now yours : )

I look forward to joining you sooner rather than later in hosting a theme at Theme Hybrid!

I’m another one that like Galin’s minimalist designs. I also downloaded his themes to see how is his code, I liked, and now it’s on my list of approved guys that I would use parent-themes from. 😉

  3. Thank you guys! 🙂 I didn’t expect this amount of attention. This is a unique community and I’m happy to be part of it.

  4. Well you deserve all the attention. Just need to look code closer also when I have time.

  5. Galin: thank you for all your work bro! Responsive layout, minimalist and with a homepage slider! You read my mind!

Justin: thank you for featuring Galin’s work. I’ve been tempted to stray from Hybrid because of the need to go towards responsive layouts which is beyond me right now. Galin’s work on top of Hybrid is a huge help to me and your willingness to provide support for select themes from the community really boosts my confidence in them.

My only question is: do you have plans to assemble other folks to help you process the community themes and give support? At some point aren’t you going to max out?

    1. I like where the site is at now. One of the major reasons for the redesign/restructure was because I was “maxed out”. Doing some of the smallest things on the site were tedious and far too time consuming. With the restructuring, it makes things much easier for me to manage.

Plus, with theme designers like Galin and a few others that I know of, managing this new section shouldn’t take up too much of my time/commitment because they’ve got solid work.

So, to answer the question: I don’t have any immediate plans to bring others on board for managing things like this. However, it’s not outside the realm of possibility in the future.

Thanks for the reply Justin. I’m glad to hear the new site structure allows for you to manage everything better. And again thanks for doing all you do.

    Nice work Galin.

I too didn’t know about your other themes, they’re beautiful.

Keep up the good job. I look forward to seen more of you work.

  8. I like it, I love it. By the way, have you guys browsed the demo using tablet or smart phone? It is a tablet and smart phone friendly theme. Galin, a job well done, two thumbs up!

    1. Yes it’s smart phone friendly theme. I’ve tested it with iPad 2, Samsung S2 and Nokia Lumia 800.

  9. I’d recommend to all theme developers here to try and get your theme on Theme Hybrid. It’s been really beneficial for me – got some valuable feedback, helped me to realize I’ve been doing some things the wrong way,… And I even got some extra fame 😛 .

Having a theme here is like a stamp of quality approval.

  10. I love it. Good work and keep them coming!

A bit late to the party, but as a photographer, I really love the Ascentica theme. Since I just re-did my blog, I’m not ready to do it again. I’m going to may a mental note and if any of my photo buddies need a new theme, I’ll know were to go.

  12. I really like the Ascetica Theme, will use it for my upcoming blog.

  13. Its a really attractive theme.. But does it support bbpress? I just wanna know.. coz i have a forum on my site.. Gonna change to this theme sooner.. Thanks for such a nice theme!
