Life Collage comes with an additional page template called “Lifestream.” This template was meant for you to show a stream of your life online on a single page.
It first lists your 10 latest posts. Then, it shows your Flickr images. And, finishes up with a widget area that’s useful for things like your Twitter or del.icio.us feeds.
Luckily, this template is not very hard to set up, but I’ll walk you through the steps in this tutorial.
Using the Lifestream page template
Before doing anything, you’ll need to create a new page to use your template with.
Go to “Pages > Add New” in your WordPress admin to create a new page. You can name your page whatever you want. You can call it “Lifestream” for simplicity. Select the “Lifestream” template for your page. If you’re unfamiliar with using page templates, read the page templates tutorial.
That’s it. Just save your page at this point. You won’t be doing anything else here.
Using this feature is not required, but if you have a Flickr account, you might want to use it.
When viewing the Lifestream page template, you might want to show off your Flickr photos. This template integrates nicely with the FlickrRSS plugin.
All you need to do is install and activate the plugin. Then, select how many and what photos you’d like to show from the plugin’s settings page. The theme will do the rest. See the plugin’s page for instructions on how to use it.
Note: An optimal number of photos is 10 or 20 for the best layout.
Utility: Lifestream Template sidebar
Another neat thing about the Lifestream page template is that it provides you with an additional sidebar called “Utility: Lifestream Template.” This rests directly below the Flickr photos in the previous step. It’s great for adding things such as your Twitter feed or del.icio.us bookmarks.
To add widgets to this area, open your WordPress admin. Go to “Appearance > Widgets” and add as many widgets to the “Utility: Lifestream Template” widget area as you like. The best layout will result from placing 2 widgets in this area.
