Using and modifing Stargazer

  1. I have been asked to build a community site( for another community group) which replicates this site
https://boynevalley.org.au/ and its functionality and layout. (I ported it to WP in 2010 and still maintain it on a voluntary basis)

I don’t need the new site to “look” exactly the same, rather similar.
In time I would also change the boynevalley site to Stargazer if this works out, but the group who own BV want me to match the appearance of their existing site as it is, so that remains to be tried.

The boynevalley site is years old and still uses a heavily modified child of twenty ten.

I had several key things needed in the new theme

    • fully html5 compliant
    • SEO friendly
    • implements schema.org microdata
    • easily able to implement a child theme
    • responsive
    • accessible for deaf and or blind users (looking back in the changelog you speak about it being close to being compliant in this area )

My search led me to Stargazer which seems to tick all the boxes.

    A couple of Q’s
If a custom post type is added by hand or from a plugin, can the microdata be used with the custom posts in some way (presuming the plugins don’t implement microdata).

Browsing the theme documentation I came across https://themehybrid.com/docs/hybrid-news-front-page-template which seems to be from a very old theme no longer in your theme list.

It provides a layout and functionality which I could use on the new site, not for the front page, but certainly within the site for some pages.
Would it be suitable for use within Stargazer?

BTW this page https://themehybrid.com/weblog/hybrid-news-wordpress-theme#comments throws a parse error from the “Demo” link

The Hybrid Core framework has an attribute system built in that Stargazer uses. So, there are many places where you can add/alter those attributes.

That’s on the theme level anyway. It really depends on the plugin and what sort of control it hands over to the theme in terms of output. If the post types are similar to posts/pages in terms of functionality, it shouldn’t be difficult to change things as needed.

Not at all. Hybrid News was an old child theme of the original Hybrid parent theme.

Your best bet would be to build a custom front-page.php or page template for that.
