Login status when landing on new forum page

  1. @Justin- Trying out the new forum area. Looks great.

FYI, landing on the new forum page showed me as logged out (although I was logged into TH when I followed the link). I logged in again, and went directly to the new forum link again – I now show ‘logged in’.

Apparently at the moment, using the link from your sticky thread in the ‘old’ forum results in being logged out in the new forum.

(trying out the ‘edit topic’ capability right now)

The other thing I notice is that my avatar does not appear (and instead the default avatar does).

I am very interested in seeing this project develop and in trying out what I am sure will be a much more usable forum plugin/app. Thanks. –Bill

Yeah, something is clashing with the old forum login and the new. You can’t be logged into them both at once.

    …..

Also, you may want to hide the WP admin bar when logged into the Message Board.

    …..

Also, this plugin is pretty kickass so far.

You may already be aware of this, but I just noticed that when I’m logged into the MB, the admin bar actually show’s up on all themehybrid.com pages.

Yes. This is the cookie issue you asked about in the topic on the old forums.

You can’t be logged into the main Theme Hybrid site and the old forums.

Your avatar is controlled by your email set on your profile page in the admin.

It’s always showed up on Theme Hybrid since WP added this feature (forgot which version). You can enable/disable it from your profile page in the admin.

I do need to update the links for the forum-related stuff in the admin bar though.

Just to explain further about the log in/out issue. The old forums run on completely separate software. It is not a part of WordPress. WordPress runs ThemeHybrid.com. Everything about the site, except the old forums, is part of that.

WP 4.0 introduced some changes with cookies that breaks backwards compatibility with some systems, particularly those using BackPress. That’s why you can’t be logged into both at the same time.

I could’ve spent lots of time/energy on trying to fix that problem, but I thought it best to go ahead and move forward with the new forums. This is something I’ve been planning off-and-on for a while now anyway.

The good news is that the new forums are built with a plugin for WordPress. That means that you’ll stay logged into the site, unless you happen to go to the old forums and log in.
