"Add Block" feature

4 Replies ·

  1. I see there is a new “add block” feature. But when I try to use it, there is no option to choose the text color for the text in the block (I tried to add a quote and citation).

    Also, any text I add to my existing page, whether or not I use the new “add block” option, is invisible when I preview the page. Obviously text I added previously has been visible so I’m not sure what is different now.

    Please help!

    This is a bug with the new Gutenberg editor. If a theme, such as Stargazer, doesn’t have custom colors, it’s broken.

    You can fix this by adding the following code to your child theme’s functions.php file. Of course, you can change the colors to whatever you prefer.

    add_action( 'after_setup_theme', function() {

        add_theme_support( 'editor-color-palette', [
            [
                'name'  => __( 'Charcoal' ),
                'slug'  => 'charcoal',
                'color' => '#282c34'
            ],
            [
                'name'  => __( 'Regent' ),
                'slug'  => 'regent',
                'color' => '#8c97a7',
            ],
            [
                'name'  => __( 'Husk' ),
                'slug'  => 'husk',
                'color' => '#B9A364',
            ],
            [
                'name'  => __( 'Red Stage' ),
                'slug'  => 'red-stage',
                'color' => '#b15330',
            ]
        ] );
    } );

    This sounds like a bug with WordPress, which should be reported on their support forums so that it can hopefully be addressed in the future.

    I think I’ve heard of people having similar issues though. One solution was to switch to a different Web browser to see if it works.

    Right now, the new editor (Gutenberg) is very much a work-in-progress. Despite 100s of developers asking that they wait until many of the bugs be fixed, the lead WP developers decided to release it anyway. There’s really not much we can do on the theme side of things until some of these bugs are fixed.

    If the new editor is not to your liking, you can always install one of the following two plugins to revert to the original editor:

    (not sure this went through the first time, so I’m trying again)

    Thank you. That is confusing, and a little bit scary. I’ll take another look in the morning with fresh eyes. Hopefully I’ll be able to get this figured out!
