Getting started
Visionary is a fairly advanced WordPress theme. I’ve tried to make the setup as painless as possible. Just take a quick read through this guide and you should be ready.
Installation
- After downloading, unzip the downloaded file. You’ll get a folder named “visionary.”
- Upload the “visionary” folder to your “themes” directory in your WordPress install.
- Login into WordPress admin panel (dashboard).
- Click on the “Design” tab.
- Click on the “visionary” theme screenshot or title to activate the theme.
Your theme should look like this in the directory:
/wp-content
/themes
/visionary
Choose your theme settings
The Visionary theme has many options for you to choose from, much more than most themes.
So, you’ll need to see how the theme settings page works.
Set up your widgets
You’ll also want to set up your sidebar widgets. These make choosing which content you want in your sidebar painless.
Just go to your WordPress dashboard. Click on Design > Widgets. You’ll have several sidebars for different pages of your site to choose from and quite a few widgets to move around.
Begin posting
Once you’ve set up your theme settings and widgets, you can begin posting again.
It’s as simple as that.
Some light reading
If you’re new to custom fields or using image attachments, then you might want to read these articles. Even though you don’t need custom fields and images to use this theme, it’ll make your site look much better.
- Learn how to use image and file attachments.
- Read my tutorial series on using custom fields.
- Read the using custom fields guide from the WordPress Codex.
