Feature article

Visionary Feature

The Visionary theme comes with a section on the front page for your latest feature article. This is great for that news-type site you might be trying to run.

Another neat thing is that this feature post isn’t repeated later in the page, so you won’t be seeing two of the same posts on your home page.

Setting up a feature article is fairly straightforward. I’ll walk you through the steps here.

  1. Setting up the feature article
  2. Posting the feature article
  3. Adding a feature image

Choose your feature settings

To set up your feature articles, you need to log into your WordPress dashboard. Then, go to Design > Visionary Settings. Under the Home Page Settings section, there’s a box labeled “Feature.”

You have three choices on how you want your feature articles to be added:

  • Category
  • Tag
  • Latest post

If you want your latest post to be your feature article, then choose no category or tag setting. Otherwise, choose either a tag or category from which your latest feature article should be shown.

Note that the category setting overrules the tag setting because categories are generally given more weight than tags.

Posting a feature article

Now, you should be ready to write your first feature post. So, head over to the Write Post panel.

Go ahead and write some great content. This is a feature article after all!

Depending on the settings you’ve chosen for your feature article, you need to either add the post to that particular category or tag it with the specific tag you’ve chosen in your settings. If you chose no tag or category for your feature article on the theme settings page, then you don’t have to worry about this.

How to add a feature image

You might want to spruce up your front page with a nice feature image. There are two ways to do this: custom field or upload an image to that specific post.

You’ll need to read the tutorial on adding images to the theme for all the details on how the image script works.

If you’re going the custom field route, then there are three custom fields by default you can use:

Feature Image
Full
Medium

Note that custom field keys are case-sensitive (meaning that Feature Image and feature image are not the same).
