To use the Feature article with the Options theme, you’ll need to first set it up.
Note: See the features gallery documentation if you’re looking for that. This is for the single Feature article.
Choose your feature settings
You first need to log into your WordPress dashboard. Then, go to Design > Options Settings.
Select Feature as one of the Home Sections (1 – 5). After that, find the box labeled Feature.
You have three choices on where you can get your feature article:
- Category
- Tag
- Latest post
If you want your latest post to be your feature article, then choose no category or tag setting. Otherwise, choose either a tag or category from which your latest feature article should be shown.
The category setting will overrule the tag setting because categories are generally given more weight than tags.
Posting a feature article
You should be ready to write your first feature post. Go to the Write Post page in your dashboard.
Go ahead and write some content worthy of being a feature article.
Depending on what you’ve chosen for your feature article on the theme settings page, you need to either add the post to that particular category or tag it with the specific tag you’ve chosen in your settings.
If you chose no tag or category for your feature article on the theme settings page, then you don’t have to worry about any particular tag or category.
How to add a feature image
A feature article needs an image on the home page, right? There are two ways you can do this: custom field or upload an image to that specific post.
Read the tutorial on adding images to the theme for all the details on how the image script works.
If you decide to use custom fields for images, then there are three custom fields (by default) you can use:
Feature Image
Full
Medium
Please note that custom field keys are case-sensitive (meaning that Feature Image and feature image are not the same).
