wordpress ICS Calendar Plugin

  1. Hi Justin,

I am trying to find a solution for reporting events for our college's new "Learning Commons" wordpress web-site, a site designed for students, as opposed to the registrar. So far, I am experimenting, trying to see what is possible, and what is not.

I am trying to convince the college to use the hybrid framework as a basis for this site. An important requirement is to be able to report upcoming events in an "easy to find" and "easy to decipher" way.

I have been inspired by your article, http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/01/06/easy-navigation-menus-in-wordpress , which provides custom navigation using your "bookmarks" widget and link-categories. (Yes we will use those for navigation.)

I would like to do something similar for custom-event lists. I have found this plug-in, http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-ics-importer/ , which can import more than one google-calendar and display it in a number or ways, including one calendar being allowed to be displayed as a widget. For example, see my sandbox:(I know, too many pages and too many categories).

    However, I have two concerns.

    1. The pages don't validate, so my guess is that the plug-in might break hybrid at some point.
    2. I would really love to have a calendar widget that is similar to you bookmarks widget, where it can be added many times, specifying a different google-calendar each time, and hence a different list of events.

Do you have any opinion of how hard it would be to change the above plugin to do this (provided the author is willing)? Do you know of something that already does this?

I have been inspired by this article, http://elmcity.info/media/doc/downtown-group.pdf and feel that calendar syndication is the way to handle the complex and varied set of events that occur on campus, and it is an approach that won't overload the wordpress database.

Thanks for any input you have time to give.

    Cathy
