widgets control panel not "accepting" the changes I make

   I am using the Winchell child theme and I have installed the hybrid-hook-widgets, hybrid-tabs, and events-calendar plug-ins.

   When I am in the control panel for widgets, I drag any of those widgets into boxes on the right-hand side to activate them and it appears that they are working, but when I go to the site to see them, they aren't there. Then, when I go back to the widgets panel, any changes I made are gone.

   What am I doing wrong?!

   That worked. Thanks. I'm used to the old method where I could just drop the php of the plug-in into the code where I needed it. Any advice for those of us adjusting to the hooks?
