What CSS and PHP books are on your shelf?

  1. I am going to take some time off to do some reading around the coming July 4th holiday and would like to purchase a few ultimate reference books for CSS/PHP.

So what are your recommendations for the must own books? I rarely get time off and believe it or not that's a vacation to me, getting away from the computer, but having time to extend the skill set with some good reading.

    Thanks!

  3. I'm reading Vladimir Prevolac's WordPress Plugin Development: Beginner's Guide http://www.packtpub.com/wordpress-plug-in-development/book

Recommended, and you will support a community contributor.

I will second on Dont Make Me Think, which I also have in my bookshelf.

I`m looking for the ultimate css trends and solutions book...

  5. CSS the missing manual

    the zen of css design

head first HTML with css and xhtml

Do I ever read them? NO.

Where do I come to learn. HERE

  6. When I was first learning CSS, the crappily titled Stylin' with CSS helped me get my head around the fundamentals.

I also use CSS Mastery: Advanced web standards solutions when I need to remember a few more advanced techniques.

  7. I guess Prevolac's book and plugins go on the list. I will third "Don't Make Me Think." My navigation scheme came from reading his suggestions and I don't think any website should be made without using this as a planning tool.

Will Prevolac's book provide most of the PHP I need to deal with WP?

  9. Prevolac's book will show you the process of creating 6 different plugins. It's not really a "how to" it's more of a "how I did x" type of book. Though he does talk through the process, you may learn how to apply this to your own work, but if you don't understand functions or jqueary before the book, you won't after it either.

That being said, I've enjoyed it.
