empty div displacing custom widget area

  1. I am adapting a child theme for use on a church site. For the HOME page only (DESIRED POSITIONING) I registered four new widget areas in functions.php. My immediate problem is that when I use Hybrid's Primary widget area on other pages (but excluded from HOME page with Widget Logic), the four widget areas on the HOME page get displaced (BAD POSITIONING). When I view source for the messed up HOME page, I see that there is an empty div with the id "primary." As you can see, positioning on the HOME page is going to be pretty important. Any suggestions (I'm fairly new to this)?

  3. Thanks, Justin. I applied both of your suggestions. There was still a displacement of the special Widgets on my Home page. What finished solving the problem for me was stating in CSS that the Home page was to be the full width of the container. Hopefully I'll come to understand why merely using the Primary widget area--even though excluded by Widget Logic--reduced the width available to my special home-page widgets (my inexperience in building the home page template and its CSS is surely to blame).

  5. Thanks for the thorough explanation.
