You'll need to redesign your header area, particularly the background image of the design. See this thread:

When I remove this then the "wrap" container moved up into the bar that used to be the category nav bar. anyway to move it back down? thanks.

I'm a bit confused here. This thread is extremely specific to Hybrid News. Unless you're using that child theme or copied the
functions.php
from that child theme, that one line of code can't exist for your theme.

I don't know how it is working on my site then, I don't have news installed at all. I did play with old school and skeleton a little, but I looked at their function.php files and they don't match the one I'm using, or even come close.

Oh well, doesn't really matter. I'll ask the question in a new thread and get headed down the correct path.

You need to be using version 0.6 for both sites.

That line isn't in version 0.6 or 0.5.2 though. This topic is about the Hybrid News theme. The code above is specific to that. Since you're creating a custom theme, it's best to open a new topic with specifics on what you'd like to do.

Justin,

I've started working on another site now. For both, I'm creating my own custom theme. For the first site I'm using hybrid .5.2. This one, I'm using .6. For the .5.2 one, I removed the nav, using your method, and added my own custom navigation in functions.php. In .6, that line doesn't seem to exist. Am I missing something or did that just change? If it changed, how do I do that now? Will this be a problem when I update the first site to .6 or future versions?

I know I can hide it with css, but I really don't want to do that.

See my other post to see how I added my own nav. This is how I'd like to do this one too. http://themehybrid.com/support/topic/an-optional-nav-menu

Thanks,
Gary

Also, here's the thread on customizing what's shown in the category menu for the Hybrid News theme:

Yeah, in Hybrid News, the category menu is shown. To remove it, you only need to remove this line from your child theme's
functions.php
.

line 41
:

add_action('hybrid_after_header', 'hybrid_cat_nav');

maybe i worded that wrong. in the hybrid news demo is is right above the slider, says Entertainment, Health...etc etc. The subscribe icon is at the end of that row.

Are you using a particular child theme? A custom child theme? Hybrid doesn't show a category menu by default.

I'm sure this is easy, but how can you remove the category navigation menu at the top? or at very least, can you control which categories are shown?
