I apologize if this is the wrong forum...

I am trying to limit the view of posts from a specific category to a date range of the last 12 months. Can that be done with the query posts widget and if so what is the data field syntax?

If you've never used the "Compatibility" feature at the WordPress.org plugin repository, now's a good chance to see how it works.

It allows you to select whether a plugin "works" or is "broken".

There's also some great discussion on how to make this a more useful feature:
http://wordpress.org/extend/ideas/topic/wordpressorg-plugins-compatibility-widget

What you can do to help

If you're using one of my plugins and you know it works, please rate it as "Works".

Or, if it's broken, feel free to rate it as "Broken." Of course, if something's broken, just open a new topic here in the support forums and let me take a look at your issue.

And, there's also a star-rating system. So, feel free to rate any of the plugins.

But, please don't cheat or lie on my account. I don't want any free handouts. If you're not using the plugin, there's no need to rate it or anything.

Where you can find my plugins

All of my plugins are hosted on the plugins repository, and here's my page:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/profile/greenshady

If nothing else, maybe this will give you a chance to try out some new plugins.

Also, it might make some of you aware of the "Compatibility" box on a plugin's page. Don't just use this for my plugins. If you're using other people's plugins, make sure to give them a vote of works/broken.

How does this help?

If you're using one of my plugins, feedback is always appreciated. The simplest form of great feedback is whether something is working for you.

If you ever rate a plugin as broken though, please offer feedback to the plugin author on what's going on.

Where can I find full documentation for using your members plugin? (I am a registered user of your themes.) I found
http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/09/17/members-wordpress-plugin
, which said to come to this forum for support. I just want to read over the documentation to understand if this plugin will do what I need (alone or in combination with a plugin like Business Directory).

I am looking for a membership plugin (to restrict some, but not all WP pages to registered members) and display a public directory listing member and their contact details, which members can update themselves.

I try to localize sliding-panel plugin and create a it_IT.mo file in the plugin directory. But the localization don't work. Then I discover that if I rename the file in sliding-panel-it_IT.po then it work ok (I have wp2.9.2 & sliding-panel 0.1!).

So, if you want to translate this plugin you must name the translation file like sliding-panel-xx_XX.mo.

Hi Justin,

Sorry, I made this a double post, but couldn't find a way to mark the previous one has "unresolved", and was afraid it may pass you by.

Thank you for a massively great plugin. I am hoping for it to evolve in such a way that I could implement it in all my sophisticated (to me) needs. But, alas, I am as code illiterate as can be. Still, I try... ;)

I have been trying to get this to work in complete vain. I am using the Pods CMS plugin and need to hide a public form from all, but logged in "administrator" and "listing_owner" users. After many versions of trial and error, this is what my code looks like now (tomato red blush):

<!-- Members Permission Start -->
<?php
	if ( function_exists( 'current_user_has_role' ) ) {
		if ( current_user_has_role( 'administrator' ) || current_user_has_role( 'listing_owner' ) ) {
			/* Do something. */
			if ( function_exists( 'current_user_has_role' ) && current_user_has_role( 'administrator', 'listing_owner' ) ) { ?>

<?php pods_content(); ?>

<?php } ?>

<?php
		}
	}
?>
	<!-- Members Permission End -->

Please help.
Thank you again,

I'm gearing up to release version 0.3 of the Query Posts widget, but there's been so many changes with it, I need some help testing.

This version will only work on WordPress 3.0 right now. So, please don't add this to a site not running trunk. I'll add in some backwards compatibility stuff when it's released for WP 2.9.

Changes in this version

I've completely overhauled how the widget works. In earlier versions, you had to input things like IDs and such. In this version, everything is a lot more "point-and-click".

Support for custom post types, taxonomies, and statuses have been added.

I'm no longer using
query_posts()
.  Instead, I'm creating a new
WP_Query
object, which is more appropriate, and I hope creates fewer issues. For those of you that don't know what that means, don't worry about it. It's all done behind the scenes.

Testing Environment

I welcome all kinds of testing environments, but I'd particularly like to get feedback from people with:

100s or 1,000s of posts.

100s or 1,000s of users.

Custom post types set up.

Custom taxonomies for posts and other post types.

I'd like to hear from people with these types of setups for performance.

Everything else is up for testing. Usability. Bugs. Something not working as expected.

Download

You can grab a copy from here:
http://justintadlock.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/query-posts-0.3-beta.zip

Just unzip and upload the
query-posts
folder into your plugin directory.

Hi Justin,
Been playing with your members plugin for a couple of days and it is awesome!

One thing I cannot seem to figure out though is the following:
In my sidebar I want to show Members pages only to people who are logged in. I have 3 roles for now, administrator, editor and members. I can manage to show the content for only one of those roles, but how to make an array so they all 3 can see that content? After all the administrator and the editor have far more capabilities than the members.

Also I tried to add some php within the call for current_user_has_role
(
<?php if ( function_exists( 'current_user_has_role' ) && current_user_has_role( 'administrator' ) ) { ?>
), but that doesn't seem to work. Is it correct that that is not possible (yet)?

Thanks.

I've tried using the Query Posts plugin for a custom post type (event) but got stuck in the very beginning. The widget settings don't show my new post type as an option. Only three options: any, page and post.

Would it be possible to have Query Posts automatically adding custom post types to these options?

Hi Justin,

I have been working for a while with your Members plugin and so far so good.

On a separate members page I have an output list of members (using ). This lists all members that I defined to be members, regardless of whether they have written any posts. This is the way I want it to display, so all good.

My question is whether it would be possible to add the bio behind each member's name.

I have seen that each name in the members list has a link to /author/[name]/ even if that member has not written any posts. Alternatively I could make an author.php and list the bio info there, but ideally I can add the bio info in the list.

Looking forward hearing possible solutions!

Thanks,

Currently, I have 3 tabs. I have given them set widths so that they fit seamless;
Ultimately I will have 9 images;

Tab 1 (when it is active)
Tab 1 (when it is hovered)
Tab 1 (when it is in-active)

Tab 2 (when it is active)
Tab 2 (when it is hovered)
Tab 2 (when it is in-active)

Tab 3 (when it is active)
Tab 3 (when it is hovered)
Tab 3 (when it is in-active)

The purpose of 9 images is that Tab 1 has a rounded edge on the top left, Tab 2 has no rounded edges, and Tab 3 has rounded edges on the top right

I have tried to find it in the CSS, trying combinations like this:

#primary .widget-tabs li.t1 t {
	width: 136px;
	height: 35px;
	background: transparent url(images/tab1.png) no-repeat top center;
	}

or

#primary .widget-tabs li.t1 t a {
	background: transparent url(images/tab1.png) no-repeat top center;
	}

Basically, I am trying to target the CSS Background for Tab 1, Tab 2, and Tab 3
Any ideas? I've been at this for awhile, too. =)

The event calendar I am using no longer works on WP 2.9. I cannot wait for the rewrite. I only need a simple calendar displaying events on a specific date.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all!

I should probably preface this by saying that I am a complete novice when it comes to PHP so please be gentle. That said, I'm currently using the (excellent) Members plugin (version 0.1.1) to restrict a private gallery page (with child pages) from anyone who doesn't belong to the role "friends." I found a screencast (found here) that showed exactly how to do this and got it working just fine as per the following code block:

//Exclude the gallery from non-friends
function my_page_menu_args($args) {
	if (function_exists( 'has_role' )) {
		$exclude = true;
		if (is_user_logged_in()) {
			$current_user = wp_get_current_user();
			$exclude &= !has_role( 'bgs_view_portfolio' , $current_user->ID );
		}
		if ($exclude) {
			$args['exclude'] = '15, 17, 19, 21, 23';
		}
	}
	$args['show_home'] = false;
	return $args;
}

The problem I'm having now is that I've since added 3 additional pages to handle registration, logging in and profile editing so I would like to have these new pages excluded from the wp_page_menu list for everyone. Now I realize I can just add the three new page IDs to the exclude in the function above, but that will only remove it for those people who aren't "friends."

Can anyone help me figure out how to modify the above function to exclude the three new pages for everyone; logged in, friend or otherwise? I suspect it will be as simple as adding an "else" somewhere in there, but I'll be buggered if I can figure out where.

Thanks in advance!

On the page I want a medium thumbnail, title, and excerpt (no author, date, and other meta info). On the sidebar I want a small thumbnail and title only.

I can accomplish this by choosing the_excerpt display option, hiding the unwanted information and changing the thumbnail sizes with css. But Is this the best way of achieving this? Or are there settings that I missed?

Query Posts only shows categories that have items.

I have an Events category with posts that get set to expire once the event is over (Post Expirator plugin).

I set up Query Posts to show only items in the events category on a specific page. Saved. Works great.

Edited Query Posts widget to change the Widget Logic associated with it, and saved.

Realized after the save that because all my Events are currently expired/drafts - Events no longer shows up in the "Category_name" dropdown, and therefore when I clicked Save, all my posts began appearing where only events should appear.

This was easily fixed, but I'm wondering if the "category_name" select should show all categories, so as to avoid this in the future? I suppose what I really ought to do is put the category id in the "cat" field.

While on the topic - is there an easy way to get query posts to return something if no results are found?

I have a feeling this is much easier than I think, and that I'm missing something. But I have been trying to grid the posts put out by query-post widget.

I noticed each of the excerpts are contained in classes called "post-id" followed by "page" but I can't think of how to generally style the returns of the widget without resorting to

.query-posts-3 .post-128 {float:left; width:47%; margin-right: 3%;}
.query-posts-3 .post-145 {float:right; width:47% margin-left: 3%} etc etc

I was thinking of just a simple 2 column grid in a container 960 px wide.

Should I just skip the widget and write code into a page-template?

Thanks so much for any help!

Hiya,

I have pages that sometimes have galleries with ~200 photos associated with them.

I was using the NextGEN plugin in the past and it was able to paginate. Except NextGEN generates all sorts of errors.

I got around to redesigning the website and wanted to use your XHTML/CSS correct Cleaner Gallery plugin.

Is it possible to have the wordpress gallery paginate?
If not, I guess I will have to manually create separate pages. Thanks

Hi everyone,

I'm using the Members plugin to restrict access to certain pages on my site. Anyone who isn't registered, and tries to access the page, gets the message "Sorry, but you do not have permission to view this content."

All I'd like to do is slightly change that message, just advising them to please register first. Can you advise how to do this? I don't know if I need to look in the Members plugin, or if it's a Wordpress phrase, so help would be appreciated!

Hi Justin

This question relates to your excellent plugin "query posts".

I'm using it to create pages on my site that draw all posts from a particular catagory. These pages are very important on my site and are listed as the main page navigation.

Example

Home page (uses a query post widget to pull all latest posts excerts)
Main Navigation item 1 = Page 1 (uses query widget to pull latest posts from a particular catagory)
Main Navigation item 2 = Page 2 (uses query widget to pull latest posts from a particular catagory)

And so on.

I'm having a problem with these pages getting "page rank" 2 of my sites have googlle page rank 3. If I create a "natural" page with content typed directly into the wordpress daashboard page creator then google gives it a page rank of 2.

BUT the pages I'm creating using the above method and creating the content using the query widget ARE NOT GAINING ANY PAGE RANK.

This is obviously a terrible situation and I need to sort out.

You can see this situation at this example site

http://100mile bike.com              (Page rank 3)

http://100milebike.com/about  (Page rank 2 - "naturally created)

http://100milebike.com/blog (Page rank 0 - "query post created")

I'm seeing a similar situation on another of my sites http://crazyjourneys.com
