widgets in the footer « Community

Welcome, guest!

Feel free to read the blog, browse for themes, or join the club.

The community forums are currently being phased out. At the end of February or early March 2012, you will no longer be able to post here. This is because the entire site is being restructured. Please use the main forums for discussions.

widgets in the footer

  1. Hi Theme Club,
At the moment a visitor who is scrolling down the single page in option theme sees only the comment form and he has no links to click. So he's perhaps leaving the site!!!
I would like to have two or three columns in the footer with recent or random post or comments.
Easiest way would be if I can just define some widgets in the footer.

But when someone could just give me some css to show three columns in the option footer, I'm glad too.

    Thanks
    Matthias

  2. Is this idea similar to what I am trying to do @http://papuapost.com ? I am using show-hide plugin to help me with this. I was using three colums footer using the way dkrekt theme does and implemented it here. First I implemented this plugin. I thought three columns- footer changes the look of the original Options Theme a lot, therefore, I put it in hidden mode, that helps Options Theme still looks as its original design. Based on dkrekt, I also added Top Sidebar, Bottom Sidebar and Columns 1 and 2 at the sidebar of Category and Home Pages, and excluded them from other pages.

I have search almost all themes on the net, but all free ones are not like Options Theme, which is the best one for News and CMS management of my sites (my cms @http://westpapua.net)

    Thanks

  4. Hi papuapost,
do you have widgets in the home footer defined from the admin panel or did you insert the code manually?

    Thanks
    Matthias

  5. Justin, could you let us know if this is on the drawing board for Options, or already implementable (is that a word?) in the Hybrid theme?

In the mean time, where do I look for information about how to "wigetize" a certain area of the page? I'm happy with hacking at php myself, I've just got less than no idea where to start!

  6. Justin did a post on how to do this with a child theme & Options here:
    http://themehybrid.com/support/topic/how-to-modify-your-theme-the-right-way/page/3#post-13386
As for Hybrid, you can use css to position the Secondary widgets below the main content.

  7. justin, can you please let us know where the hooks are present in hybrid and what are they ?
so that we can hook it get some "widgets" before and after post etc...
please note ,i am not asking you "How to hook something somewhere" (then it's a support question)
i want to know just what are they and where it hooks ?
and I dont know why are you making that hooks only to exclusive members (it's one of a feature of hybrid theme and not a tutorial- I think so)

This is not in my plans for the Options theme. As davek mentioned, this is definitely possible with Hybrid by just positioning with CSS.

    Arun

There is a tutorial on using the hooks for exclusive members:
    http://themehybrid.com/themes/hybrid/hooks

and I dont know why are you making that hooks only to exclusive members (it's one of a feature of hybrid theme and not a tutorial- I think so)

I make tutorials and support forum access part of the exclusive-member package, so that I can afford to eat and pay the bills. It's either that or make people pay for the themes, which is something I don't think we should do with WordPress. It's nothing personal; it's just how the business here is ran.
