Here's my last site redesign for myself using the Hybrid framework. My blog is a diy/craft/design lifestyle site. I had some custom php done in the left sidebar to show off contributors' content and added some custom navigation to make browsing all my content easier.

Pretty darn good. But why the lack of colour?
Seems your subject matter would need something other than a white background.

That's a conscious decision. My last design had even less color, actually! I really like to let the photos speak for themselves. I think it brings all the attention into the center.

I like it - suits the subject matter really well, nicely laid out too. The only thing I would suggest is possibly making the content in the middle a bit more differentiated from the content on the sides, either by using a very slight different colour background or perhaps lighter/smaller fonts in the sidebars. Or just a bit more padding on the middle column?
