Nice plugin project for Hybrid News

  1. http://www.copress.org/wiki/Edit_Flow_Project

The overall goal of this plugin is to improve WordPress' admin for a multi-user newsroom's editorial workflow.

Through discussions with existing newsrooms that use WordPress as their CMS of choice, we have identified the following weak points within the WordPress Administration interface in the context of a multi-user environment:

    * the editorial workflow is limited and does not scale well where numerous individuals interact with a single Post or where more complex editing workflows are required;
    * the editorial workflow is not conducive to planning of future content (while the Draft feature does facilitate this to some extent, the existing feature set does not scale in scenarios where different users are responsible for different components of a post, or different steps within the workflow.
    * the ability for users to communicate within the Administration interface is limited, both the planning of future Posts/assignments and during the editing process.

While existing plugins do solve various facets of the workflow issues we raise, our aim is to provide a comprehensive solution that eases editorial workflows within WordPress, to (a) encourage its use as the primary content management system for newsroom; and (b) facilitate web-first publishing for traditionally print publications.

It should be noted that while we are targeting newsrooms in particular, our aim is to design a flexible solution that can be used by multi-user blogs with varying demands from their editorial workflows (e.g. VentureBeat).

  2. I think the second * is off an not true. WordPress gives us the opportunity to plan future post.

The first one would be a fantastic feature, but I gather, that it would be more of a WordPress core issue, than a plugin issue.

  3. The plugin is in beta and is hosted on extend: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/edit-flow/

Its nice, and it seems like it will be developed fast through the summer. Makes Wordpress a CMS alternative for organizations with complex publish routines.

  4. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/co-authors-plus/

Co authors Plus is a part of the same plugin suite and gives the ability to have multiple authors listed for a post. Includes template tags. also a nice one to watch, for thise using Hybrid News in with multiple authors/editors.

In my opinion a news theme is a niche theme that needs better author tools than a vanilla Wordpress has and it would be nice if Justin and the Hybrid community together could identify and make collaborative best practices for WordPress plugins for Hybrid News.

  5. Peters Post Notes and Peters Collaberation Emails are also promising plugins for a multiauthor news blog:

  6. I`m just posting an related idea here as well, just to get some feedback.

Imagine having a collaborating team running a news site. How could the internal information flow best be organized ?

I`d propose ( with the merge with MU ) to have the ability to run P2 ( Prologue 2 ) which Automattic uses for internal communication in the dashboard. It would be awesome ;)

Any comments ? How may it be done ? ( I think I may post the idea a wphackers )
