Metadescription

  1. I would propose a metadescription logic in Hybrid, that was extended compared to today. Now it works with this priority:

    1. Show Hybrid metadescription
    2. Show the WordPress build-in excerpt

But I think it would be cool if the priority was extended to this:
    1. Show Hybrid metadescription
    2. Show WordPress build-in excerpt
    3. Show the first X characters of the post

I know some plugins can help me with this, but this would just make the theme even more SEO-ready :-)

  2. I understand the reasoning behind this, but I don't really see the point for #3. Google and other search engines are going to pull the first X amount of characters if no meta description is set anyway. Honestly, I don't think this will hurt or help SEO in any way.

  3. Google and other search engines are going to pull the first X amount of characters if no meta description is set anyway.

And yet again, not quite in a good way. Because Google indexes the Headline again and then the authors and publising date as the metadescription shown in the search results. And then the characters are used.

See this post for an example: http://www.voipbloggen.dk/394/husk-at-stemme-paa-danmarks-bedste-vaerste-og-mest-innovative-udbyder-for-2007

I know it has a long title, but it shows this in the search result metadescription on google:
Husk at stemme på Danmarks bedste, værste og mest innovative udbyder for 2007. Af Karsten Pedersen og Thomas Clausen den januar 11, 2008. 123 hvem er bedst? ...
This is the title the authors, the date and the metadescription for the picture that start the post

    But it should show:
Der er begyndt at tegne sig et billede i de store afstemninger, men konkurrencen om Danmarks bedste, værste og mest innovative udbyder er endnu ikke slut.

So I think this will hurt the SEO a bit, and also the user experience from Googling. And yes I know we just have to remember to put in that excerpt :-)
