  1. Hi,

I've been designing and building my personal photoblog & portfolio site on my spare time for a while now. Today I finally released it. It's on Hybrid framework with a theme built on Skeleton. I decided to go bilingual (the other language is Finnish ;). Please check it out and all comments are appreciated!

    Thanks!

  2. Very nice custom theme : minimalist & elegant !

    I realy like it.

  3. Thanks Aris!

Any comments about the approach on bilingualism of the blog? How is the look&feel for a user who only understands English? Confusing or not?

  4. As a English speaker, I'd prefer a toggle. Having competing languages on the same page causes a lot of eye fatigue for those of us that see one as gibberish ;) If most of your visits are from Finland, I'd default to Finnish.

  5. Thanks for you input Charles!

Surely the bilingual approach is a compromise in many ways. Earlier my blog was only in Finnish, so most visitors are still Finns. I brought English in to get more readers from abroad and to be able to promote the blog more widely in forums etc. But I still would like to keep the Finnish in my blog alive. Maybe some other way would have been better, any thoughts from others? Anyway the blog is more about the photos, so the texts are to be kept short :)

  6. Absolutely fantastic! I personally don't mind the two languages together as I feel it adds to the 'feel' of the site! Very clean, classy and well done - I really like the photos popping out in a springy fashion.
I am using Hybrid and Skeleton myself (er... trying to...!) and I'm pleased to see it working so well as a base for your design flair. I'm a bit stuck on drop-down menus myself but I'll keep working on it!

I also like your photographic style and would like you to have taken my wedding photos as our wedding photos were awesomely naff.

    Excellent site - Excellent job!

  7. Those are kind and meaningful words to me chrislockyer77, thank you. Good luck with the drop-downs! :)

  8. Design is quite nice. And UX is as well. Except one thing -- bilingual site is presented in two languages at once. Is it a bug or a feature?
I usually use qTranslate plugin for bilingual projects.

  9. Thanks for your comments ommunist! The bilingualism is a conscious choice, kind of risky one sure, but I hope to get away with it since the blog is more about the photos than text :) Some seem to like it while others say it's distracting. More comments about it are appreciated!
