I am very very new to WP and Hybrid. I want to develop child theme based on hybrid. Which of the following download is correct for parent theme.
The community forums are currently being phased out. At the end of February or early March 2012, you will no longer be able to post here. This is because the entire site is being restructured. Please use the main forums for discussions.
To create a child them of Hybrid:
Hybrid core is for creating your own parent themes.
I'm adding to this thread since I have the same question. I've been away for awhile - Great work Justin and community!
I'm building a site for my own blog, but I tend to want to add a fair bit of functionality either from plugins I write or download. When I had hybrid news running, I wrote a fair bit of new stuff into the functions.php. Of course, when it got updated, I was screwed.
I'm thinking the best course for me now is to work from one of the new parent themes and build my own child. That would only work though if I can use updates to the parent theme and keep my changes (including functions.php) to the child theme. That way, I get most of what I need from the parent theme and don't lose it on upgrade.
The other option of using Core only seems necessary if there is more work in customizing a parent vs. building my own parent. I can't think why that would be true or why I would need a child in that scenario.
Any guidance and help is appreciated.
