Help integrating custom post type into Hybrid News theme « Community

Welcome, guest!

Feel free to read the blog, browse for themes, or join the club.

The community forums are currently being phased out. At the end of February or early March 2012, you will no longer be able to post here. This is because the entire site is being restructured. Please use the main forums for discussions.

Help integrating custom post type into Hybrid News theme

  1. I am designing a new site for my college newspaper. After trying many other approaches I decided to try out Hybrid and Hybrid News. One of my major problems though is that I really don't want to use posts and categories, I would instead like to use the post type "Articles" and also include the taxonomies "section" and "issue". This way would (in my opinion) make more sense, look better, and make archiving much easier.
My issue though is that everything is made to work with "posts". Would there be a relatively easy way to make the whole theme use articles instead of posts? I know it might seem like I am making it harder for myself (and I probably am to be honest) but for the sake of all of the future users such as writers and editors I need to make the site as idiot-proof as possible. I have attempted all sorts of different approaches, usually ending up in me loading a backup or even reinstalling wordpress and my theme and just moving my style sheet and such over, so I thought that I would get some advice before fiddling with the theme this time.

  2. good idea! would love to see the result ;)

  3. Creating custom post types is the way to go. As for Posts vs. Articles, they are the same thing. you should have a look at this plugin:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/

It lets you create custom post types without you having to dig into the functions.php file. Also manages taxonomies, etc. Pretty slick.

  4. This is the community forum for posting custom child themes. If you need help with something, please post in the support forums:
