Free usability advice for the Hybrid framework « Community

Welcome, guest!

Feel free to read the blog, browse for themes, or join the club.

The community forums are currently being phased out. At the end of February or early March 2012, you will no longer be able to post here. This is because the entire site is being restructured. Please use the main forums for discussions.

Free usability advice for the Hybrid framework

  1. Maybe ThemeHybrid can get some great ideas here: http://www.problogdesign.com/wordpress/a-comparison-of-6-popular-wordpress-frameworks I think Angie has a point when she measures these things:
    Ease of Use: 2/5
    GPL Licensed: yes
    Power of Framework: 5/5
    Number of Wiget-Ready Areas: 9
    Documentation: 5/5

If Hybrid could optimize Ease of Use, then it would be great of I think.

  2. I always appreciate feedback on things like this, especially in comparison to other themes. But, those numbers only tell so much. When I see 2/5 for ease-of-use, it doesn't tell me anything. What's more important is why that score was given and how it could be improved.

If certain things need to be easier to use, let me know specifics and how to make them better.

  3. Which properties define ease of use for a Theme Framework? Is it the amount of theme settings in the WordPress admin? Theme Hybrid doesn't have a lot of settings, but it is very educational. I've learned a lot about how WordPress really works and I'm learning to write my own simple PHP functions. Something I wouldn't have seen myself doing a year ago. So instead of making life "easier" with dozens of theme options, it teaches you how to code and style your own theme modifications. This keeps the framework clean and understandable. So for me, ease of use, doesn't really mean anything until someone explains what it means for theme frameworks.

Besides that: what really matters is the ease of use for website visitors. This really got much better since I started using Hybrid.

  4. Don't get me wrong, I love ThemeHybrid, and advocate the theme and Justins plugins whenever I can.

But the truth is in the eyes of the beholder, and if one beholders thinks ease-of-use is 2/5 it might be relevant to look at what and how the competitors are positioning their "product".
