News or Magazines need these types of boxes for sharing, or editor contact. I'd love widgets that do more to polish the sophistication of a blog, "the team" or "Featured writer" someone that's actually written in the last month. Widget areas need to get smarter, footer/sidebar are great, but under content double side-by-side boxes would be cool related and comments with thumbnails. I don't think a designer has ever really asked someone like me who actually publishes a major magazine what actually needs to go into one. Hybrid News is a love hate relationship so long as I've had you to help me expand its edges.
David Clabaut on "WordPress widget ideas" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/wordpress-widget-ideas#post-3446 Thu, 24 Feb 2011 09:27:43 +0000 David Clabaut 3446@http://themehybrid.com/community/
A News-ticker widget, based on taxonomy (custom taxonomy?) and/or category, flexible enough to be fully customized in the widget panel.
sailo on "3 center widgets in fronpage (Outline theme) help" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/3-center-widgets-in-fronpage-outline-theme-help#post-3219 Mon, 02 Aug 2010 02:57:29 +0000 sailo 3219@http://themehybrid.com/community/
hello,
i need 3 center widgets on my frontpage am not very good in css/php
please guys i need example for which file i have to edit, i mean tell me exactly which file to edit
like this:
http://kuwaitana.net/widgets.jpg

is there any easy way to do that?

thanks
SupplementUpdates on "WordPress widget ideas" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/wordpress-widget-ideas#post-3104 Sat, 05 Jun 2010 19:51:10 +0000 SupplementUpdates 3104@http://themehybrid.com/community/
I'd love to see widgets that allow customization of front page layouts like for Hybrid News.

1. I still love the tabbed category post previews with thumbnails that you did for the options theme. If you could make a plugin that did this, it would be killer.
2. A plugin to do the same as above, but for RSS feeds. I found a way of doing this, but the shortcodes for RSS with thumbnails require a ton of CSS to style. A simple plugin would make this easier.
3. I've seen websites that have cool horizontal thumbnail sliders with thumbnail/post title and I haven't been able to find one. There's tons of plugins for front page sliders, but this would be a nice way to display posts on the front page. The best way that I can describe what I'm talking about is the "media news" slider on this theme: http://www.gabfirethemes.com/demos/transcript/

Yeah, I realize that my wish list of plugins are pretty complex and would be time consuming to make.
LuWeeks on "WordPress widget ideas" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/wordpress-widget-ideas#post-3103 Sat, 05 Jun 2010 12:50:52 +0000 LuWeeks 3103@http://themehybrid.com/community/
1)
Enhance Hybrid Tabs so that individual post categories can be chosen for tabs. These are the kinds of things that I can build in a few hours. The idea is to build a body of work that can easily be plugged into themes with multiple widget-ready areas (i.e. Hybrid).

I'm not thinking things as complex as my Query Posts widget, but something on a much smaller scale. Some examples:

* Author profile
* Posts from category X.
* Gallery display
* Post thumbs

What I'd like to do is release about 20 or so of these widgets. But, I need ideas and lots of them. Are there any widgets you'd just love to see done?
Justin Tadlock on "Make hybrid tabs into a new widget area" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/make-hybrid-tabs-into-a-new-widget-area#post-1234 Thu, 07 May 2009 07:24:14 +0000 Justin Tadlock 1234@http://themehybrid.com/community/
Thread for Hybrid Tabs ideas:
http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/more-options-for-hybrid-tabs
David on "Make hybrid tabs into a new widget area" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/make-hybrid-tabs-into-a-new-widget-area#post-1159 Tue, 28 Apr 2009 02:31:51 +0000 David 1159@http://themehybrid.com/community/
That would be an interesting concept.
Thomas Clausen on "Make hybrid tabs into a new widget area" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/make-hybrid-tabs-into-a-new-widget-area#post-1150 Sun, 26 Apr 2009 13:46:06 +0000 Thomas Clausen 1150@http://themehybrid.com/community/
I'm thinking that it's a bit confusing/annoying playing around with the functions.php file when adding custom stuff to Hybrid tabs, but wouldn't it be possible to make the Hybrid Tabs plugin into an extra widget area?

That way we could all just add stuff to the tabs. So that every new item added to the widget area would represent a tab.

The backside of this is that you would have to do more steps, but I think it would be easier than playing around with the functions file.

Steps as far as I see
1. You should tell where you would want Hybrid Tabs to appear
2. Give it a name (and this name should appear in the widgets section)
3. Go to the new widget section and add a bunch of widget you want to appear

The great stuff is, that now you can use other great plugin widgets in the tabs area like Query Posts, plain text widget (which together with exec-php is a powerful tool) and a bunch of other plugins.
StormRider on "Name Hybrid widget sections and other ideas" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/name-hybrid-widget-sections-and-other-ideas#post-675 Sat, 24 Jan 2009 23:46:07 +0000 StormRider 675@http://themehybrid.com/community/
Wow! I must get back to the new Hybrid release now! It will take advantage of the
query_posts()
function in WP, which has a ton of options you can set. So, putting it together is taking a lot of time.

It'll be a widget/plugin I release on my blog (non-specific to themes). I'll probably add in a check for
get_the_image()
to make it compatible with thumbnails.

When I say it's taking me a while to code, I truly mean it. Just take a look at the documented parameters for
query_posts()
and you'll have an idea of what I'm talking about:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/query_posts#Parameters

You could essentially have a theme that is entirely widgetized using this one widget.
StormRider on "Name Hybrid widget sections and other ideas" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/name-hybrid-widget-sections-and-other-ideas#post-666 Thu, 22 Jan 2009 13:10:05 +0000 StormRider 666@http://themehybrid.com/community/
I would like to second PegasusTeam on the Recent Posts widget - I know that you said it was not likely to re-appear in Hybrid, but what about as a plugin? The existing Archve widget doesn't have anywhere near the flexibility or customizability (is that a word) of the old Recent Posts widgets with images.
Justin Tadlock on "Name Hybrid widget sections and other ideas" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/name-hybrid-widget-sections-and-other-ideas#post-650 Mon, 19 Jan 2009 01:59:50 +0000 Justin Tadlock 650@http://themehybrid.com/community/
I'm not sure how well that'll happen between themes other than Hybrid child themes, but I'll test it out. For example, if you add/remove an entire widget section now, it displaces widgets. What I'm up late working on tonight is making sure your widgets stay in the correct widget section.
Justin Tadlock on "Name Hybrid widget sections and other ideas" http://themehybrid.com/community/topic/name-hybrid-widget-sections-and-other-ideas#post-647 Sun, 18 Jan 2009 10:34:18 +0000 Justin Tadlock 647@http://themehybrid.com/community/
"Before Comments" implies that there will be a comments section but is a pretty solid name. "After Single" and "After Page" make more sense, at least to me, because they are connected to the existing hooks in the theme. I think consistency would help keep any confusion down.

I'm not thrilled with Tertiary either. But, "outside" implies that something is on the outside when it could easily be somewhere else. Switching two lines of CSS would switch the position of Secondary and Tertiary.

One thing I'm trying to do is to keep everything semantically correct. Outside, inside, top, bottom, left, right, and other names such as these imply that something is positioned in a certain way. I tend to lean toward "before" and "after" if I can come up with no better name because elements have to literally come before or after other elements in the source code. I'm not satisfied with before and after either though.

even though that Top (before content) will totally break my child theme I'm working on at the moment, if someone puts a widget in it.

I'm hoping that this is the last major change to the widget system for a while. I hate to make such a drastic change in the theme, but it would be better to do it early in the theme's life rather than later.

I never use the other widget sections either. Personally I found them a bit of a distraction, especially when I added an extra widget section and everything moved up or down one place. Plus now, with Widget Logic you have much more control over where your widgets will show and not show.
