Hi Dave,
have downloaded 0.0.6 with Album + Support, seems I'm doing something wrong, there are a couple of pages not quite right

e.g. http://szenemusik.davidscott.de/members/dave/album/

any ideas what the problem could be?

cheers

@Supertyke, still have a small issue with only loading the required BuddyPress JS & Ajax on BuddyPress pages, will hopefully sort it for next version.
Support for BuddyPress Album+ has now been added though.

Great work Dave! I'm now using BP-Links, it works fine.

I have also just uploaded the new BP-album plugin, this unfortunately breaks the page, I haven't done any work on configuration though I must admit ....

Ok I just installed Hybrid, but I have no idea how to tweak it.... In fact, I really do not know how to do much in Word Press.... yesterday I spent quite a few hours trying to do a tutorial on making your own themes. But I gave up after the index page step....

SO, I want to know if in the paid section - IS there tutorials that will help me to get up and running and tweaking of Hybrid - I will probably install Hybrid News as well.... I want a front page that has lots of sections.... But I need help which assumes you know nothing.....

I have worked with blogger for several years (even at tweaking / making my own template changes).... so I do know a little bit....

Thank you for your help!

@Supertyke plugins that don't have page templates should work as expected.
Any that have page templates should just need a few changes, let me know if you are stuck with any.

adding

add_filter( 'sidebars_widgets', 'remove_forum_sidebars' );

function remove_forum_sidebars( $sidebars_widgets ) {
	if ( BP_FORUMS_SLUG == bp_current_component() && bp_is_directory() ) :
 $sidebars_widgets = array( false );
 endif;
 return $sidebars_widgets;
}

functions-buddypress.php should remove widget areas from forum pages.

To turn off the pages drop downs have a look at

<?php wp_list_pages( 'title_li=&depth=4&exclude=' . bp_dtheme_page_on_front() ); ?>

in that same file & change depth=4 to depth=1

Thanks Dave, have updated :-)

I've started pulling in data from another site, so its starting to look better as a whole

The forum page is looking a little ragged, and really would look better on a full page without widgets ... but hey, I'm not complaining.

I am experimenting with the following plugins at present, and all seem to be working:

BM_Shots
BP-NotificationWidget
BP Group Documents
Buddypress Like
Buddypress Rate Forum Posts
CollabPress
Lexikon
oembed for Buddypress
TDLC Birthdays

I'm not using BP-Links as it doesn't appear to like the Lexikon plugin, and the latter is more important to me, at least at the moment.

BTW: Anyone have an idea how I can turn off the drop down function in the page navigation?

cheers

@Supertyke looks good,
Just spotted a CSS issue.
You need to add:

div.item-list-tabs#subnav a{
 color: #555;
	}

@Avi not sure what the issue is, could be a BuddyPress subdomain issue, did you try the default theme to see if it works?
to the style-buddypress.css so the non selected subnavs can be seen.
(http://szenemusik.davidscott.de/members/dave/)

Still trying to figure out a way to only load the BuddyPress stuff when viewing BuddyPress pages, will update it again once I have.

Nav Menus Screenshot

Here's a teaser for the new menu management system:
http://justintadlock.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/primary-menu-screen.png

Hybrid will come with the option to turn on the menu system. Once that's done, you'll have the option of editing the "Primary Menu." This menu will replace the current "Page Nav" used in the theme.

Navigation Menu Shortcode

I really like the direction the navigation menu system is going because it allows me to create cool things like this.

I just added a
[nav-menu]
shortcode to the theme. So, you'll be able to create custom nav menus and display them in any shortcode-aware area.

Someone (think it was Justin) mentioned
comment_type
earlier. Hoping this gets addressed in the not-to-distant future by the WP core devs.

Much like
post_type
has been around for a while, so has
comment_type
(even though it's not even possible to new register ones... yet). It's part of the WP database. The defaults are
comment
,
trackback
and
pingback
.

Adding to the idea of using comments for any type of form, exposing this functionality could allow the core WP comments system to be used for any of the following:

User review system.

Support ticket system.

Aggregator for data related to the "post".

A mini-twitter conversation focused around a targeted topic.

User Photo/Video sharing.

Submission method for running contests.

This is getting way ahead of where WP currently is, but it's interesting to think about. That said, can't wait for all that 3.0 is expected to bring and thanks to everyone for keeping this discussion going.

It looks good. I could definitely use something like that on my site, although I'd want it in a page rather than in the top menu so I'd need to deconstruct it a bit.

- Upload, convert and publish (and edit and delete) PDF to Issuu document
- List my own Issuu documents (as custom post types?)
- Search my own Issuu documents from within my own website

I'm probably very vague, because this really is too ambitious for my level of coding knowledge. I know what I want, I have a hard time explaining what I want, I can't do it myself and I don't know where to find someone who can help me.

The basic idea is that the end users (editors) have one login. They log in to published articles and upload their most recent Magazine in PDF. Also the website visitor will have the abilty to browse and search the magazine archive, besides the regular WordPress search.

Edit:

Reading this back I realize that this is way outside the Hybrid scope. It's probably plugin territory. Which is territory I don't feel I'm ready for.

Improved user friendliness of the widgets

The one thing I've always thought Hybrid done better than any other theme is overwrite most of the default widgets with super-powerful alternatives. While it's great to have loads of options at your fingertips, it'd be even greater if it was all point-and-click.

Pointing and clicking

Currently, a lot of the settings require direct input of values. Version 0.8 will allow you to select things in many of those cases.

For example, let's look at the improved "Bookmarks" widget:
http://justintadlock.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/bookmarks-widget.png

In the current version, the
category
,
exclude_category
,
include
, and
exclude
settings required you to input a comma-separated list of IDs. Now, you can simply select what you want to show.

Improved wording

Right now, select options are generally untranslated values. Doing it this was from the start was great because it's simply easier to code and runs less risk of having mistakes.

Now that I've had time to build the system to a certain point, I've been able to go through and make the changes required to make your lives easier.

No longer will you see values like
ASC
and
DESC
for the
order
setting. Instead, you'll have readable options such as
Ascending
and
Descending
.

Plus, these can be translated, so non-English-speaking users can see these in their own language.

Improved interface

I've done a little touching up of the overall interface of each widget as well. There was no need for things that require a single or double digit to take up an entire line for their text input. Instead, smaller items like these get floated to the right, on the same line as their form label.

Mostly, I've tried to keep things as compact as possible while still leaving as much breathing room as a widget control will allow.

New Widget: Navigation Menu

WP 3.0 will have a new widget called "Navigation Menu." Of course, it's lacking in options (only title and menu selector), so Hybrid will have a replacement.

Here's what Hybrid theme users get:
http://justintadlock.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/navigation-menu.png

This may change slightly. It just depends on what options are added/removed from the
wp_nav_menu()
function during 3.0's development.

RE: Form Elements Extension

I think I'm going to drop this. It's turning out to be more trouble than it's worth.

It's great for things like the
<select>
element, which has multiple options, but it's a hassle with other form elements.

If anyone wants this, I'll still be happy to let you have it. It's pretty much a fully-developed set of functions.

RE: RE: Template for multiple taxonomies
I ended up using Scribu's Query Multiple Taxonomies plugin. Although I would really like this feature as a part of Hybrid, the plugin works fine. You can find it here: http://scribu.net/wordpress/query-multiple-taxonomies

He actually developed it for me :-)
It's running here on hybrid 0.71 / skeleton... http://www.burgundy-report.com/wp/index.php/finder/

Anyone interested in building a connection between Theme Hybrid and the Issuu API?

I wish I could do this myself. Perhaps someone can explain how such a connection should be built?

Are you holding off on the framework alone until 0.8 and WP3.0?

I'm holding off on it indefinitely. The more I think about releasing the core framework, the more I realize that it's not really needed. Basically, it'd just be going against the idea of Hybrid in the first place, which is that one shouldn't have to recode everything for every theme release.

The Hybrid theme does everything that's needed. And, if you really needed custom templates, those can be added within a child theme.

I've got other pros/cons for releasing the framework separately, but I won't get into them now.
