I discovered the Hybrid Core a couple of weeks into my 'education' and I love the whole principle behind what you've done - not to mention the structure and the whole ethos behind it. However, I think it's really important that you need to learn to walk before you can run, so rather than diving into creating themes using the Hybrid Core, I figure it's a lot more prudent to start as simple as possible, even though I sometimes forget this and find myself skipping stages A and B, only to get bogged down in C without having a clue of what I'm doing.

Anyway, although I'd found this site quite early on also, today I decided to work through a tutorial developed by a guy called Ian Stewart over at () and I've got to say it's really helping to make few principles very clear. I noticed a couple of references to yourself in some of the comments and wondered if you had any connection to Ian Stewart? Additionally I realise that the tutorial was uploaded in 2009 and acknowledge that there must have been a load of updates to Wordpress since that time, so although the tutorial seems to work fine for me on my local server, I'm wondering if a lot of what it teaches might be outdated now?

Apologies that this thread is not directly related to Hybrid, but if anyone is starting out with Wordpress from scratch (provided the tutorial isn't too outdated) I'd recommend it as a starting point.

Really looking forward at getting good enough to work with Hybrid though, and thanks for all your efforts to-date in making such an awesome framework.

PS. I also came across this article today which goes on about code-bloat and too many database queries in commercial wordpress themes and frameworks - something I'd never really considered before. It's an old-ish article, but in the comments section you'll find that Hybrid was rated at the top of the tree for fewest database queries - so congratulations :)

Edit: Whoops - and the link:
Galin on "Responsive Design" Tue, 31 Jan 2012 09:42:25 +0000 Galin 4858@
Thank you @gloriaantonelli and @wiselywoven :) . My theme was never meant to be a replacement for any of the existing ThemeHybrid themes. It's just another example what can be done with Hybrid Core - for those members of the community who want to implement RWD into their own themes.

I'm not even 100% sure I should call it "my theme". It's a Hybrid Core theme.

The fact that it's responsive isn't a valid reason to use it as a base. You can just inspect the code (the CSS specifically) and use only the parts you are interested in.

Valid reasons to use Origin instead of let's say Prototype are:

You like the styling and use it more or less as it is.

Decide that it would save you time and efforts for a specific project.

Aside from those I think you should stick to the ThemeHybrid themes here. RWD is not rocket science. I don't mind sharing what I've learned so far and I'm not the only member with experience in the field.
wiselywoven on "Responsive Design" Tue, 31 Jan 2012 01:33:34 +0000 wiselywoven 4856@
I am really interested in the idea of responsive Wordpress theme design because the amount of mobile device and tablet web traffic is quickly escalating. If our websites are not responsive we are missing a growing opportunity. I was asking about this the other day when @Galin released his responsive theme built on the Hybrid Core here in the forums. You can see Justin's thoughts on responsive themes as well - again, here is the link that @gloriaantonelli already posted:

Personally, I want to stay using Justin's solid coding but I also want responsive design functionality so I appreciate what @Galin is up to, like I said, using Justin's Hybrid Core to build responsive themes: (there's two themes so far and a third coming)
Shapeshifter 3 on "Responsive Design" Mon, 30 Jan 2012 21:05:41 +0000 Shapeshifter 3 4855@
I posted this in the Forums. One of the responses that I got was that my dreams are not WordPress core issues, but Framework or Theme Developer issues. So here goes for anybody that will listen:

I don't know if anybody else has as much interest in this as I do, But:

I switched back to Twenty Eleven from an open-source Framework because I couldn't figure out how to get things done the way that I wanted them. This is not a complaint but strictly a desire. It may be that I don't have the programming skills of quite a few others here, so I'm just winging it.

I've been trying to learn how Mobile Responsive Design has evolved, and have installed most of the following WordPress Plugins into my site:

1.)
2.)
3.)
4.)
5.)
6.)

Can the core Developers of WordPress embed these capabilities, scripts, whatever you want to call them, into the next or following version of WordPress? The most difficult of them seems to be the last one . I had to reduce my former 3-column layout to Twenty-Eleven's 2-column in order to get my site to be presentable on Smart Phones and some Feature phones. I disabled the WPtouch plugin since it's theme didn't present my site the way that I wanted it to be seen (this is not a complaint against their developers either).

I would like to have a great 3-column layout (with multiple Header Images) for Desktop viewing, and then some Responsive capabilities to step it down to 2-column for Tablets, and then 1-column for Smart Phones. Better yet, how about a WordPress core built from the ground Up (1-column Mobile, 2-column Tablet, 3+ column Desktop)?

The idea is to alter the WordPress Core so that as few plugins as possible are necessary to achieve Responsive Design Layouts. I wonder if it would be easier to build from the Top Down (, or would it be easier for WordPress core Developers to restructure from the ground Up (Mobile First) ?
GeorgiaG on "Member Plug-in for Word Press - Widget layout for sign in" Thu, 26 Jan 2012 06:58:15 +0000 GeorgiaG 4841@
Never mind - I ended up removing it.
