When it comes to the Hybrid theme framework, I like to move fast. Yes, it’s upgrade time once more, and you’ll like what’s in store this round.
There was very little in the way of bugs in the last version, so that gave me extra time to focus on cleaning up code and adding in a few much-needed enhancements.
Version 0.3.3 enhancements
- Added new widgets that overwrite the default WordPress widgets.

- Tags
- Post/page author name can be added to your meta tags (see Hybrid Settings).

- Blog author’s can now add any XHTML to their profile descriptions.
- Category descriptions can now have any XHTML added.
- Added support for weekly archives in
date.php, the breadcrumb menu, and the browser title. - Added
searchform.php, so users can take advantage WP 2.7’sget_search_form(). - Reduced the left margin on definition lists in the CSS files.
- Added a fluid-width version of the Holy Grail.

Version 0.3.3 bug fixes
- Using category name instead of slug in Bookmarks widget as some category names wouldn’t work.
- Page template is now shown in the body class on the front page.
- Image script updates and code cleanup.
- Moved the Hybrid Settings save button below everything else on the page.
- Added the missing CSS class
form-textareaincomments-popup.php. - Misspelled instance of WordPress now corrected.
Version 0.3.3 deprecated files
If a file becomes deprecated, it means that it will likely be removed in a later version of the theme. This can either be because it’s no longer useful or has been replaced by a different file.
These files are not adding much to the framework except bulk. They’ll probably be removed when version 0.4 rolls around.

Get the latest version of Hybrid
I know Hybrid has seen quite a few updates, but I simply love working with this theme. Plus, I want to make sure everyone’s using the highest-quality version of the theme possible, free from the bugs that plague other WordPress themes, allowing you to focus on getting your content out there to the world.
So, take a few minutes and upload the latest version to your site.
To upgrade, simply delete your old hybrid folder and add your new (unzipped) version.

Thanks. My main focus right now is to make sure we’re as completely free of bugs as possible. Then, I want to start making the theme as lean as I can get it.
Strange problem here Justin. I was upgrading Hybrid, so I unzipped and overwrited the files, but when it was done the theme dissappeared from my “Available Themes” page.
All the files are in wp-content/themes/hybrid, but it’s not showing up in the CP. Tried deleting and reinstalling, still not there.
Of course I figure it out within minutes of posting this! No worries!
Good to know that new features are added at a very rapid rate.

Hybrid is definitely going to be a fast-moving theme, especially since I’m planning on building 90%+ of future projects on top of it.
I think of Hybrid as being a set of tools that allows me to run my site in any way I like.
Justin, sorry to leave a comment in an inappropriate place but bbpress isn’t letting me log in the past few days – it appears to accept the login information and takes me back to the page I was at but still not logged in. I can log in fine in the main section of the website (obviously!) so I’m not sure what’s wrong. Any ideas?
Also, do we have a guestimate time frame for a Hybrid 0.4 release? I recall you mentioned the next release would probably be 0.4 and I’m more and more convinced that the next iteration of ATMac should be WP2.7 + Hybrid. I’d like to wait until it’s a touch more stable though, as it seems to be a fast moving target still. I like fast moving targets, but it can be a lot of work to keep up!

I’m thinking I should have version 0.4 out before the end of the year, but don’t hold me to that.
Although Hybrid is a fast-moving theme, it’s stable now. I worked on it around four months before even releasing it just to make sure it would be stable enough to take on regular updates. I don’t think I’ve made any changes from version 0.3 to 0.3.3 that have broken anyone’s child themes. The reason I made Hybrid is so I could update it often without breaking stuff.

I don’t seem to be able to get WP version 2.7 on Hostgator.
I have version 2.6.2 Will this new Hybrid them work on that?

Hybrid works with WordPress versions 2.5+, so you can definitely use it.
Thanks Justin! I’m trying it out, but honestly, I’m having great difficulty getting the child them to activate and getting the pages I created to show up. I use Dreamweaver templates for my websites now and Typepad for blogging. I know how to use CSS but the child CSS doesn’t seem to affect anything. Do you offer one-on-one consulting to walk me through just getting it to work?
I’ve used WP before, but never with a child theme. I’ve read your instructions but something isn’t clicking. I think you are 100% right in theory about using child themes…but if I can’t make this work I’m really going to have reconsider using Word Press at all. Maybe it is best in the long run to just stick with what I know. I’ve spent 2 days on this already! I think this is why I gave up on it 3 years ago. It just consumes so much time. I really need to focus on writing and creating, not programming. Please say you can help : ) Maybe just an hour of your time?
