It’s been a long, arduous journey these past four months or so, which is how long I’ve been developing this theme.
Hybrid is more than just a WordPress theme. It’s about pushing the limits with what WordPress can do. It’s a framework. Something you can use to build anything from the smallest family blog to a powerful site that handles thousands of visitors a day.
It’s why I created Theme Hybrid. It’s the reason I love working with WordPress.
If I could list all the benefits of this theme without taking up too much of your time, I would. I’ll just give you the short list instead, so you can go ahead and play with the theme:
- Developed with child themes in mind, so you’ll never lose your customizations.
- SEO optimized. No need for plugins to handle this anymore.
- Theme options that are about content/information.
- Templates for everything.
- 13 page templates.
- Actively developed for WP 2.7 but backward compatible down to 2.5.
- 15+ plugins supported within the theme.
- Attachment handling like you’ve never experienced.
- Advanced breadcrumbs beyond any other theme.
- Ability to run just about any type of site.
- And over 20 tutorials to start.
Like I said, that’s the short list.
13 page templates
I did want to highlight this feature. Hybrid is loaded with page templates.
You probably won’t find too many other themes with both a Log In and Register page template included.
Plus, there’s the Prologue-style page template called Quick Post (for those of you looking to start your own version of Twitter).
There’s way more though.
Get the theme already!
I’ll stop highlighting features now and let you download this thing.
As always, keep adoration and praise in the comments section and support questions in the forums.

Congrats on the release Justin & thanks again for getting those extra page templates in, fantastic work…
Well, if it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t have those extra page templates. I just hope they’re not too buggy since I just added them in the last few days.
You’ve been a big help throughout the development stages of this theme.
Also, I know you wanted it, but I didn’t add the categories for the breadcrumb menu on attachment pages. It just didn’t feel right to me. However, I left the code (commented out) for you.
Yeah, just looking at that now, thank you.
I also want to add a line to the post page template saying you must be logged in as well as the register page template if registration is turned off, other than that, fantastic so far…
Justin, man, you are the best person I´ve ever meet in this world. I will help to translate this theme in my language. You are amazing! I… just don´t know what to say… Good bless you!
amdwushu
I could definitely use the translations. What language are you planning on translating to?
Justin, you have done a wonderful job again. Thankfully, I can make my comment before the comment counts go over a hundred. How about making some child theme available to get some of us started, then we can create other variants of child themes. A variety of themes styles would be appreciated, like grunge, clean etc.
Wonderful! I am working with L10N(Simplified Chinese) of hybrid, when I finish test, I will send you the po file.
Thanks again for your great job…
hi Justin… just a quick note to say congratulations and thanks so much for the latest version of Hybrid.
The WordPress community owes you a lot, not just for your top notch themes & framework but also for pushing forward the child theme concept. Thx again!
Amazing job, so many page templates makes this theme a great CMS.
I love it.

I’ll greatly appreciate it. Also, check out the translating Hybrid tutorial as it’ll really help.
The Blog Artist
Well, I had to release this theme to the public at some point. It only took me four months.
I’m already working on the first child theme, so expect that soon.
Christi
I’ll only allow you to use it if you can make your child themes shine like you have with Thematic.
Great job you done on Cozmoslabs!

No problem. I have a lot of plans in the pipeline for this theme. There’ll be loads of extra features coming.

I’ll look for your email. I get around 40 or 50 that I have to respond to every day, so sometimes I’m a little slow at getting back.

Hi Justin,
I sent you an e mail a while a go regarding Spanish translation…. do you need any help? I’ll look for reply here.
Nice work.
I just upgraded the theme and also wordpress to 2.7 beta 3 and search bar looks bad in FF 3.0.4
Check navjotspeaks.com for what I am saying.
Pls fix this.

You can download it and use the theme like anyone else.

We could definitely use a Spanish translation. I get a lot of emails, so if I missed yours, sorry.

amdwushu
Sorry, I haven’t really checked email over the weekend. I was taking a bit of a break. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
…and well deserved it is too
For when you get back…
The text seems at first glance valid English for all countries but should the po country code be en_US?
Might that make a difference when using multilingual WordPress sites or do most browsers just accept the generic code EN?
Many thanks,
Mike
Well, the theme doesn’t actually use the
en_ENfiles. They’re really there to help people translate to their language. The differences between UK English and US English are fairly minimal and not enough to warrant any confusion to would-be translators trying to grasp the concept of translating themes by changing the name becauseen_ENis widely accepted as English in general. If we separated the differences, each would be
en_UKfor UK English,en_USfor US English, anden_ENfor plain ol’ English.[...] Hybrid WordPress Theme Framework [...]
Justin,
With regards to the Spanish translation. Please contact me via my blog with a full project brief as to what you would like translating and an E mail address for future correspondence.
My wife is from Chile so the Spanish is Latin America (which I believe is a wider audience than the ‘mother land’).
I look forward to helping you out.
Brian
I sent you an email, Brian. We could definitely use a Spanish translation of Hybrid.
It may be best to apply the same logic as that used for English ie. es_ES.
Even more so than with American and British English there are distinct terms especially for computing.
However the words that might be effected by this within the conetxt of theme titles and settings are probably minimal.
However can I help out by checking the files for any such terms before it is released?
Cheers,
Mike
PS. Strange thing is that whilst en_EN is very common I can find no mention, even negative, about it in for example Wikipedia. Maybe I’ll add a comment there myself and see if I get flamed

en_UKfile as well and offering it up in the translations section. You’re welcome to do that if you want.[...] Si es la primera vez que nos visitas, te puedes suscribir a nuestro feed RSS aqui. Gracias por tu visita!Hybrid [...]

I am really excited to get this theme loaded, but I am having problems. I use Blue Host and my site is dolarsinthepocket.com. I accidentally unzipped the Hybrid files to wp-content/ not wp-content/themes. My page went blank. I am trying to recover now and delete the excess files. Now Blue Host has a funky place holder on my page, but I need help fixing this. Hybrid looks like the best theme I’ve seen so I am eager to get it up and running. Please help
